Weekend Journeys

We traveled all across the Albanian coast this past weekend. The road from Durres to Vlore were paved maybe 40-50 years ago. I finally experienced what Michael Palin experiences in his travel shows. Always wondered what it was like bouncing around for hours at end on a dirt road. It's torture. It took about 6 hrs to reach our final destination for the day and as soon as we got in our driver went to his room to take a nap before he drove us to dinner. I sit in the back of the bus with the cool kids (that's a joke son)and developed a lovely case of nausea. I had to sit up straight and hold on to the seat in front of me until I fell asleep. Once I did, I was bouncing all over the place and thought I was going to fall out of my seat a few times.

I don't have photos of the hotel I dubbed the Turkish Prison Hotel. It was nasty as hell. What I expected all of the trip to be like. Fortunately we've had very nice accommodations, until Turkish Hell, that is. Nastay!!! Only one night. At least the ocean was just fabulous blue, clear, cool and calm. I swam, I drank beer. That is why my tummy is so big; Albanian beer and bread, YUM! I'm posting the bikini shot anyway, so be nice to me, I'm homesick and need hugs.

The Butrint dig was just fantastic. It turned me on. It was early morning and still cool at the start of the trip. We were the only ones in the area and so I ran between sites in the cool, damp, green woods. Dreamy. Wish my fambly could have been here with me. We all love Roman history. We could have all peed our pants in unison. GROSS!
